Kinky Toys and Where To Find them

Posted on

Hello kinky friends! If you’re a kinkster like me, you probably love some nice toys to play with. I know I do! When you’re starting out, all the toys you see on the internet and at parties can be a tad overwhelming. In this post I will talk about my recommendations and where I buy my playthings.

Rope, bondage and restraints

Rope is so much fun! However, it’s important to take safety measures into account as well. There’s a lot of information out there on the internet and, since it’s the internet, not all of it is good. When you get started with rope bondage, I would visit a couple of peer rope meetings or workshops for beginners. This way, you can talk to people about their experiences and figure out how the different type of rope feels. Natural rope feels different than synthetic rope, and each has their own advantages and disadvantages. It’s also important to check for allergies, since being allergic to natural fibres such as jute is not uncommon.

If you’re Dutch and are curious about rope bondage, I would recommend Ellipsis for social events. Many bondage professionals also give (private) classes, like Butterfly Bondage. On both of these websites a lot of information can be found as well, and I would recommend giving it a read. If you want to buy your own set of rope, BindMe is the place to be.

There’s a lot more peer rope organisators, professionals and webshops out there, but I can’t possibly mention them all here. A lot of the events can also be found on Fetlife! Don’t forget to add me as a friend 😉

Cuffs and collars

We all know that you can find a pair of fluffy handcuffs at any sex store, but those are not very comfortable. They’re also easy to break (oops). If you want a pair of ‘real’ handcuffs, I’d skip the sex store and visit an army dump instead – it’s a lot cheaper, and usually the stuff they sell there works a lot better 😉

Jokes aside, steel handcuffs are not intended to be comfortable and if they’re too tight, you might hurt your wrists. This is why for BDSM play, I prefer leather handcuffs. Luckily, you can find these in most sex stores. If you want something a little more fancy, you can find a lot of (custom-made) leather handcuffs and collars on Etsy as well. There’s a lot of beautiful handiwork out there! There’s also a lot of kinksters on FetLife who are into leathercrafting as well, so don’t be afraid to ask around.

Whips and chains

Whips and other spanking implements are amazing. I love a good flogging! There’s a lot of different types of whips, like floggers, riding crops and bullwhips. Riding crops are easy to find – just visit any pet store that has a horseriding department.

Floggers are, just like handcuffs, sold a lot by leathercrafters on Etsy. Even though, not all floggers are the same. The type of leather, amount of strokes and how heavy the flogger is, all changes the way it impacts the butt. Some will be very stingy, while others have a thuddy impact. It’s all a matter of preferences!

I also mentioned bullwhips, though I wouldn’t recommend those for beginners. I think bullwhips are beautiful. They look so fancy and scary. I don’t play with bullwhips because I am a big baby because I don’t enjoy the impact of these kind of whips. I recommend Leiband in case you’re want to buy one.

Some creative solutions

As you may have noticed by now, many toys are expensive! I do want to stress that you don’t need all these things to spice it up in the bedroom. There’s nothing above an over the knee spanking, after all. You don’t need a fancy whip for that 😉 There’s a lot of kitchen utensils that can be used for impact play, too. Many of the IKEA cutting boards are used as paddles. Meat tenderisers and wooden spoons are found in many a kinksters’ bag as well. If you’ve ever visited IKEA with kinksters, the following comic I drew will be very familiar:

There’s still a lot to be said about toys in the bedroom, like insertables, gags and other fun stuff. I will write a follow-up post on that, later. I hope everyone enjoyed this read! Let me know what you think on Twitter 😉
