So You Want to be a Camgirl pt. 1

Posted on

Every once in a while, I receive messages along the lines of “I want to be a cam girl too” and “I wish I could do what you do”. This made me decide to make a couple of posts about life as a cam-model. This post isn’t just for girls, but for everyone who wants to be a cam-model. There’s no limitations, after all. Let’s start with the basics, shall we? 😉

I have been camming on-and-off for about three years now. I started in 2016 when I was looking for a job that was easy to combine with my classes. Because I already was a kinky fucker, camming caught my eye. I already had a webcam, lingerie and sex toys.. I could decide when I could work, what I would do and take breaks whenever I wanted. Let’s give it a shot!

What do you need?

You’ll need a computer, a decent internet connection and a webcam. On some camsites, you can even use your phone or tablet. Maybe it seems like you need fancy lingerie, corsets and expensive sex toys, but don’t worry about that when you’re just starting out. The thing that makes camming special is the interaction with customers, not the amount of toys you have.

Currently I use the Logitech C920, but I didn’t start with such an expensive webcam. The first webcam I used was a cheap one I already had. At some point I had saved up enough money with camming so I could upgrade to a new and fancier webcam, and I recommend you to do the same. If you’re curious, there’s some comparison pictures between the two below. For me, the main reason to upgrade was so I could make HD videos with it, because I wanted to get into selling sexy clips of myself.

A lot of models also use sex toys that can be remote controlled, which can be an awesome addition to your show. You don’t need them, though. If you’re just starting out, a fancy sex toy like this can be quite expensive. But you can always make your own wish list and make your customers buy them for you. 😉

What site should you work on?

There are a lot of different websites I’ve worked on, each with their own pros and cons. Personally, I prefer websites where your customers pays per minute. There are also a lot of token-based websites, where people are able to watch your stream for free and can tip you if they like. You’ll have to find out what works best for you! If I want to know more about a certain site, I always check WeCamGirls.com for reviews.

xModels

I frequently cam on xModels. It’s a website with a lot of traffic and it’s easy to start your camming adventures on there. A lot of the customers are Dutch, which is helpful if you’re from the Netherlands as well. If your customers find you through your own URL, you can get up to 75% of the money they spend. There’s the option to have a free chat, private chat, as well as VIP-chat with customers. I don’t use the free chat function, but I love playing sexy games in VIP-chat! The difference between private chats and VIP-chats is that while multiple people can talk to you during a private chat, a VIP-show is an exclusive, sexy show for one customer. Voyeurs can take a peek during these shows as well, but you can’t talk to them.

The customers pay with credits, of which you get a certain percentage, which increases based on different factors. The money you make for private chats ranges between € 0,18 per minute to € 0,90 per minute for each customer. This means that if you talk to four people at the same time, you’ll make € 0,72 to € 3,60 per minute. Keep in mind that while some customers will stay for hours and others only stay for a couple of minutes. What you make in an hour can be very different each time you get online.

VIP-chats are amazing. During private chat I tease a lot, but in VIPs I go all out. You can adjust the amount of credits per minute for VIP-chats to 10, 15 and 20 per minute. Personally, I set my VIP-rate to 15 credits per minute and I won’t use the freechat option I previously mentioned. Doing this, I’ll make € 0,54 to € 1,80 per minute. During the show you can make extra money by allowing voyeurs to watch. Voyeurs pay half the VIP-rate and having multiple people watch while you give someone a sexy show is hot.

I’m planning to write a more in-depth post about camming on xModels later, but I hope this is helpful! You can make an account on xModels here.

Clipsites and fan clubs

If you have been following me, you’ll know that I post my videos to many different sites. Creating short clips, photo’s and videos along with camming is something I’d really recommend. I love it when I wake up, check my email and find out that I made money in my sleep! The fun thing about creating hot videos is that you only have to film them once and can sell them forever. I love it when I can make a lot of people happy with a clip I worked hard on. I’ll write a short list of the clipsites I work on below, but I plan on creating posts where I go over them in detail as well.

  • GetIndieBill: This is an amazing website if you have your own clients already, or are willing to advertise. You get paid 85% of the video price and in countries with Euros as a currency you get paid out if you made as much as 25$.
  • APClips was previously known as AmateurPorn, but they rebranded recently. On this site you get paid 75% per token (0,75$ per token) and it’s possible to make video and photo bundles. I love how cute this website is!
  • Clips4Sale is one of the biggest fetish clipsites. If you’re into creating kinky stuff, I definitely recommend it. You get paid 60% of the video price, but if there’s a lot of traffic which can bring new customers.
  • iWantClips: Here you can sell (custom) videos, phone sex and subscriptions to your own fan club. I especially like how the custom video pricing works. The payout percentage depends on what is bought. Videos and photos have a percentage of 60%, tips are 80% and for custom clips you get 100% of the price!

There’s a lot of other websites as well, but this are the sites I work on personally. I’m not going to recommend websites where I don’t work on personally, because I want to be able to share my honest experiences. 🙂

At last..

Camming is a lot of fun, but remember that not everyone is as open-minded as you are. Camming and creating sexy clips is sex work after all, and not everyone likes the people doing it. As a result of this, I do want to suggest to think things through before you plunge into adventure. 😉 As they say, “What’s on the internet is forever”. Regardless of what you choose to do, I hope you have fun and get that money!

I hope you had fun reading this and that it was helpful for you. There’ll be more like this in the future, so stay tuned.
